66 Die In Flaming MATS Plane Crash

Funeral notices and disaster reports follow a seven hour fire that devastated a St. Lawrence River town. 66 perished in a Flaming MATS plane crash as Red Cross workers aided 212 victims, with shelter and clothing distributed by priests, nuns, and neighbors. Ex-Taylor county couple Bengle and Weta Dalton died in a separate car train wreck. their daughter Anemone Maile injured.

Salvation Army revives old time religion in Chicago

In Chicago the Salvation Army staged a 75th anniversary revival at the Princess Rink drawing about 100 members and a large crowd. Foot stomping hallelujahs recalled late 1800s services with theatrics and a morality play featuring a developer, an atheist and a drunkard as Maj. Ray Gabrielson urged reverent attention and the power of Salvation Army evangelism.

First MATS DC-4 crash since 1948 kills 56 aboard

A four engine MATS Navy DC 4 crashed near the top of a ridgeline inside the Lualualei ammunition depot on Oahu. All 66 aboard were reported dead or missing, with rescue teams at the scene and Navy officials noting no confirmed survivors. The accident occurred after the plane departed Hickam at 7 p.m. Monday en route to Travis Air Force Base.

Harrisburg Pa Up reports a second proposal to construct a link between the Pennsylvania Turnpike and the West Virginia border.
