Doctors used four X rays to locate a missing inch long sewing machine bobbin swallowed by Geraldine Madeiros 214 Fall River Mass. The bobbin had vanished four months earlier causing choking spells. It lay in the nasal pharynx and was removed by operation.
The house appropriations committee outlined a bipartisan plan to trim over a billion dollars from the next fiscal year budget. The omnibus 29 billion package funds more than 40 federal agencies and aims to define nonessential spending for early floor consideration after Easter recess.
Diplomatic reports to the State Department indicate China’s Communist rulers face heightened difficulties in consolidating control. Western officials foresee delayed Red expansion into Southeast Asia, potentially buying time for the US and allies to shape policy toward Indochina. The unidentified baby boy found December 13 in Grasslick Creek will be buried Wednesday. Jackson County Corner C Roy al Kessel and Prosecutor Oliver D Kessel said burial was authorized after efforts to locate the parents proved futile.
The Reverend O. J. Howearth delivered the main address at a Public Library ceremony on Saturday afternoon. Rockport boy Donnie Whipkey aged two died after a truck ran over him at the Whipkey farm. State Police said no charges were filed against his uncle Danny Whipkey of Waterford.
In Fresno a 14 year old girl confessed to the fatal shooting of her sleeping twin sister Sally Richard with a .22 rifle. She told officers she hated her sister and planned the murder, saying she felt bad only for her parents. The suspect faced a murder charge as authorities described a long running sibling rivalry.
James Jennings of Wolfe Mercer County faces murder charges for the shotgun killing of Arnold Dye 33 as he stepped from his car in front of a Wolfe tavern. Dye died after being taken to a Pocatahontas Virginia physician’s house. Arrest followed within an hour as Jennings rode in a taxi. The incident arose from a tavern argument involving Dye Jennings and two others. President Truman signed an executive order at Key West to head off a strike on 12 western railroads scheduled for tomorrow.
Erie proprietor Mike Palermo retrieved his 11 year old son Nick and two companions 13 year old Michael Manning and 12 year old Paul Youclan after they absconded with about 9 000 in cash. They were found in Pittsburgh with most bills still in small denominations and new clothes purchased. The elder Palermo planned a talk with his son following the incident.
About 500 high school seniors will visit Fairmont State College on Saturday April 1 as part of Senior Day. A program is set to acquaint the guests with the facilities and activities at Fairmont.
City council meeting tomorrow at 8 PM at City Hall will decide the incinerator location and review citizen letters on sites. Winners of a letter contest receive free garbage service for a period. Two World War II veterans memorial fountains to be placed. garbage rates rise April 1 to fund incinerator bonds.
Howard R. Sperry of Monongahela Power Company Fairmont will be principal speaker at a Commercial Club dinner at 6 30 p m in the Grafton High School home economics department. Guests include high school faculty and senior class commercial students. A film on filing methods titled It Must Be Somewhere will be shown. About 35 students and guests are expected.

Jury commissioners have drawn petit jurors for the upcoming April Taylor County Circuit term. Grand jurors meet April 10 at 9 a.m. under Judge W Merle Watkins. list to be released after service. Named jurors include Wm A Beavers Jr, James Whitescarver, Henry Anderson, George Zorik, Paul Lannan, and others across districts Fetterman Flemington Knottsville Bridgeport.
Washington reports that Chinese Communists blocked a mass evacuation of Americans and other foreigners from Hong Kong by denying landing craft access. About 2,000 foreigners including 310 Americans were slated to depart, with vessels General Gordon and the American President Liner ordered to stay in Hong Kong amid the first such evacuation since last fall.

In SOUTH PORTLAND Maine a Siberian husky named Patches killed five year old Donald A Boucher. The dog was euthanized at Shangri La Auburn three days after the attack on the boy. Emile Morin owner ordered the killing after the child was buried. A veterinarian administered the drug at the Auburn hospital. The boy's mother Mrs Stanley Foucher expressed relief noting the dog will not harm others. County Attorney Canfield C McDonald cited a medical examiner who said the dog chewed part of the boy's head to the bone.
City crews finished extending a six inch water main and sewer lines to the Harman development in Blueville after several days of work. Lincoln street had to be dug up to reach the lines and weather slowed progress. The Harman Brothers plan two large store rooms with a third building planned this spring and housing development later. rentals for the store rooms remain undecided.
Welch West Virginia police charged James C. Foley with murder after the operator George W. Roberts was shot at his home following a meeting at a store. Roberts died at a hospital about two hours after being struck by shotgun fire.
