A rock slide near Riverside Drive west of the old quarry blocked the road at 8:30 am with an estimated 200 tons of sandstone slabs. No injuries reported as city and state crews clear debris using dynamite if needed. Two large blocks measured about 13 by 4 by 5 feet. Traffic diverted around the slide. road expected to reopen by nightfall. Weather and freeze thaw likely caused the incident.

The Senate Judiciary Committee recommended passage of a 1956 refer dum to grant Korea War veterans a state paid bonus similar to the World War I and II bonuses. New York police arrest William Patrick Farrell 25, a father of two, in the Greenwich Village murder of Ann Yarrow, a 23 year old NYU sociology student. Yarrow was found stabbed and mangled in a tenement on February 6, after a weeks-long investigation. Farrell’s arrest followed a rapid pursuit and linked evidence from a separate assault on his sister-in-law and father-in-law.
In Saigon Indochina, King Norodom Sihanouk, a noted jazz-playing monarch, abdicated today after a Feb 5 referendum showing over 99 percent support for independence from France. He resigned in favor of his father, Prince Suramarit, per an official release.
Charleston reports the House defeated the Administration's proposed 8 million income tax bill by 62 to 45.
