A 20 year old Grafton native Carl J Smith son of Walter W Smith and the late Elizabeth Sims Smith was killed in action in North Africa on February 1 He enlisted in September 1940 and is the first Taylor county combat fatality in World War II His telegram from the adjutant general conveyed the War Departments deep regret and condolences to his father.
