Transport plane crash injures 24 guardsmen in Maine
A C-47 transport plane carrying 24 guardsmen and a photographer landed in Fore River near Portland injuring all aboard. Pilot 1st Lt Edward Lent said brakes failed, sending the craft into six feet of water at about 100 mph. Crew and passengers, mostly from Bangor, were rescued by boat and ladder.

Taylor County Wool Pool Gathers 5890 Pounds for Marketing
Approximately 5890 pounds of wool were gathered by the Taylor County Wool Pool last week. Forty four Taylor farmers used the pool facilities. The pool exceeded last year’s crop marketed by about 2906 pounds and is now making advance payments. Shippers receive 40 cents per pound for wool eraded as clear medium and 80 cents for rejects. Henry Vincent presides as president of this year’s wool pool. The week’s wool was shipped with wool from Upshur and Barbour counties in one carload.
