Road commission Adds Rule For Vehicle License Transfers
Charleston June 24 The West Virginia state road commission issued a rule governing license number transfers when cars are traded or sold by private owners. A vehicle receives a number at application and, upon transfer, the license and number pass to the buyer with the seller surrendering the license card and providing the buyer’s name and address along with a 1 transfer fee. When trading to a dealer, the old license accompanies the vehicle and the new owner applies for a license while the dealer obtains the old license to transfer to the customer. The number changes only if the vehicle is destroyed or leaves the state.
