Washington dispatch reports a quick compromise on a draft bill giving President Truman power to order men into uniform when Congress is out of town. A joint conference committee will meet at 2 p.m. EDT to discuss a single bill from measures passed by both houses. The Korea crisis prompts push for the strongest draft system, with a two-year extension likely as each chamber makes concessions. The Senate supports a three-year extension while the House wants Congress to retain power over induction for ages 19 to 25. A stopgap extension currently keeps selective service alive.
