Three G I s stationed at Hamilton Air Force Base near San Francisco witnessed a flying saucer or object streak across the night sky at high speed, making five passes with thunderous sound and blue flame. Air Force officials deem it a local matter and will notify headquarters if warranted.
H Gimmings of New York state, owner of a car with a New Jersey license, is likely to appear before Justice of the Peace John W Snider today. Held in the city jail, he is accused by state police of selling a used typewriter for nine dollars to Herman Freedman at his Sports Shop on June 17. A contract accompanied the sale but there were verbal stipulations. Gimmings is represented by a local attorney.
Sixteen Girl Scouts from Grafton will depart Sunday for a week at Camp Horseshoe in Tucker County near Parsons. Led by director Mrs Roy Ratcliffe of Philippi and camp nurse Mrs Melvin Leaf, the group includes troops from Philippi Weston Fairmont Rowlesburg Shinnston and others. Troop I under Mrs Emory Ellers and Troop I Blueville will send multiple delegates. many parents will drive the girls to the camp for a 1 PM registration with plans to picnic and participate in nature study and scout training.

In Redwood City California last night a plaster ceiling collapse at the Sequoia theater injured 30 patrons and prompted hospitalizations. One woman, Mrs Vangle Case of Redwood City, remained unconscious after plunging about 30 feet, while Mrs William Guy Caskey of Memphis suffered a leg injury. Authorities and witnesses described a brief panic before orderly aid arrived.
Violence renewed at the American Enka Bayon plant near Morristown Tennessee with reports of two killed and several wounded as strikers clashed with non-strikers. Joe Dougherty of Enka says no confirmed deaths, three men shot while approaching a work field, including William McGinnis badly wounded. Shooting occurred near the rayon plant gate seven miles from Morristown as earlier exchanges between sides were noted. About 100 workers remained on company grounds after last night’s events. some picketed despite tensions.
Stefanizzi convicted of first degree murder in the April 1 slaying of Dr. Paul Douglas at Star City Ferry Slip. Jury returned verdict after deliberations lasting over two hours, with a mercy recommendation mandating life imprisonment. Stefanizzi, who turned 47 while testifying, denied wrongdoing and claimed accidental shooting amid forced testimony about a prior slander claim against his hometown.
