A spree of bullets poison drownings and a fatal auto crash rocked West Virginia. Nine people died in a violent weekend including four shot deaths. Patsy Cr yone 19 of Fairmont and Steve Romio 35 of Uniontown were among the injured.
City Patrolman John D. Porter was jailed on charges of slaying Patsy Cutrone and wounding Steve Romio after a Sunday picnic clash. Porter said he fired in self defense while being assaulted, as Mayor Wilson’s speech was interrupted and townsfolk mobbed him.
Glen McDonald a 19 year old Preston County farm youth drowned while riding a homemade raft on a swift high Green Hole river near Albright. His brothers aided him but could not rescue him. Sheriff and rescue workers failed to recover the body before nightfall and continued search planned for today.
Madison June 21 A young bride becomes a widow after a quarrel over a remark about her marriage to a man 19 years older. Corporal F C Bennett state police says Webster Pauley 33 shot 17 year old Carl B Adshire after a quarrel at Ashford then killed himself Ira Elkins says Adshire claimed Pauley threatened him with a fan over Pauley’s marriage to Adshire’s 14 year old cousin.
Willie Beckner, 23, of Kana county, awaits Governor Holt's ruling on his commutation plea as execution looms for the ambush killing of Cy Page. Beckner was examined by three psychiatrists who found him sane. Holt planned a decision Tuesday after pending action on the plea.

Charleston notes West Virginia marks the start of its 75th year of statehood with no planned celebrations. The state officially formed June 20, 1863 after the split from the old dominion.

County Commissioner Harvey R. Scranage was elected president of the county board of equalization and revow with Commissioner Ophan Bartlett as secretary. Court President Harvey Poe is the third member. The board met with Assessor Harry Batson and heard several applications for review of assessments.
Washington June 21 President Roosevelt ordered into operation the Guffey-Vinson act code for the soft coal industry. The 400,000,000 ton industry awaits an executive order to carry out the fair practices code, which replaces a court invalidated statute and allows exemptions for non-signers amid the 1912 percent tax issue.
Charleston observers expect John V. Brennan deputy supreme court clerk to join Attorney General Clarence W. Meadows as assistant. The home rule bill opinion aid position carries a 4800 dollar yearly salary and should be filled by July 1.

Deputy Sheriff Joe Maske stumbled onto a poker game in the Nelson pool room basement Saturday afternoon. Justice of the Peace A. B. Knabenshue fined proprietor Albert Wren $25 and costs and the six other players $5 and costs each for illegally gaming. Fined defendants named were Charles Hammond James Lewis Morgan Dabney Lester Morehead Norman Bethel all identified as negroes.
The 1891 church in Rose Hill, South, hosted its first wedding in 40 years. Miss Lenora Hesser wed Clyde Lovejoy in a ceremony conducted by Rev. Elmer Wilson. The couple is from Boothsville and Pruntytown, with families noted in the report. The event marks the second marriage ceremony held at the church.
Warren Ohio June 21 21 Picket lines mass around Republic Steel plant as a court injunction limits picket numbers yet the strike leadership vows to protect rights. John McKeown leads labor groups and warns a general shutdown could follow swiftly if called. About 10 000 to 15 000 workers are involved with the injunction barring weapons and blocking actions at plant gates.
Huntington reports a coroner returned a verdict of murder and death by own action in the case of Howard Myers and his wife Mildred. Neighbors testified they heard a quarrel followed by pistol shots before the bodies were found in their home.
Three Russian aviators completing a near world crossing landed at Vancouver Washington at 6 22 am after 63 hours 17 minutes. From Moscow they battled extreme weather and treacherous polar routes to reach an unprecedented flight path. The crew reported 5300 miles actual distance with the final leg remaining to Oakland California.

Miss Genevieve Hayden of Graf ton sought 10 000 damages for injuries from a fall on the Grafton depot steps on December 22 1935. Judge William E Baker in United States district court at Elkins ruled the railroad not liable citing lack of notice and contributory negligence. The plaintiff may appeal as allowed. the judge noted a jury verdict would have been set aside. Kerns bond mentioned. continued on page eight.
Williamson central labor union Bruce Evans reports the group voted nine to three to leave the American Federation of Labor and join the Committee for Industrial Organization. Three craft representatives opposed due to an insurance arrangement with the AFL. Logan initiated the move toward the C I O last week as Welch and Beckley followed.
Logan June 21 A Coca Cola plant strike pause ended with workers ready to return to work under the old scale while negotiations proceed. About a dozen employees walked out last week seeking higher wages and shorter hours after meeting with CIO officials and applying for a charter.
