Shift Change at Dam Review at Ty is Valley River
The Ty is Valley River Flood Control project will switch from four 5 hour shifts to three 8 hour shifts starting at 4 PM this afternoon. Under NRA code, workers cannot exceed 130 hours a month, so schedules will alternate three days one week and four the next. More men will be put to work tomorrow as officials say the dam is in full blast. Unofficial reports indicate a sizable increase in total employees. A Kiwanians event is planned Monday evening with about 100 members expected, followed by a Martinsburg delegation trip to Clarksburg and visits to Fairmont Morgantown Arthurdale.

Tahlequah case brands extortion plot a hoax
In Tahlequah Oklahoma on June 19 the assistant attorney general called the extortion scheme in the Lois Thompson case a hoax. Lois, a 19 year old Northeastern State Teachers College co ed, shot Daniel Shaw a Chinese student during a campus chase. The defense argued spies were involved and questioned Shaw's background as a quiet student. The judge instructed the jurors that a threat alone does not justify self defense and the jury must decide if Lois feared for her life amid the shooting.

Bruno Hauptmann's appeal aimed at life in New Jersey court
In Trenton on June 19, Hauptmann prepares for another fight for life with a team of lawyers seeking to introduce additional testimony in the Lindbergh kidnapping case. They argue violations of constitutional rights including jury sequestration and external interference. The defense claims jurors heard hostile radio broadcasts and were pressured by officials, challenging the trial verdict. The court was expected to rule in September or October.
