Walter Hofmeister, 37, a dry cleaning company operator from East McKeesport, died of a fractured skull after a fight with Edward Bauer, 24, outside a club where Hofmeister confronted his estranged wife. CHICAGO June 16. Robert Nixon, 19 year old negro, died in the electric chair for murdering Mrs. Florence Johnson, wife of a city fireman, by bludgeoning in her apartment on May 27 1938. Nixon was also charged in brick murders of Miss Anna Kuchta and Mrs. Florence Castle but was tried only for Johnson slaying.

Idle since March more than 800 coal miners will return to work under a financial arrangement submitted by Pittsburgh Terminal Coal corporation receivers and approved by a federal court.
