House Passes Delinquent Tax Bill Extends Redemption Time
Charleston June 16. Within 20 hours of convening in a special session the house passed a bill extending the redemption period for delinquent land taxes. The measure allows redemption before June 30 next year and waives interest on lands delinquent before 1932, while denying relief for 1933 and 1934. Amendments to abate for 1933 1934 and to permit road-work ob ligations were rejected. A companion measure to postpone forfeited land sales to 1937 was taken up immediately. The senate studied the social security bill to create a public assistance department.

Clarence Morehead First to Receive Bonus Bonds At Postoffice
More than three hundred World War veterans had adjusted service compensation bonds ready for delivery in the city and county. Postmaster James Murphy announced that bonds would be given only to the addressee. Clarence Morehead, a colored war veteran, was identified as the first recipient. The post office will operate tonight 7 to 9 for those not home to receive bonds. A verifying board of C. C. Snay Joseph Martin and Earl Henderson will meet in the circuit court room this afternoon.
