Odd facts and notes from coast surveys and natural history
Submerged California valleys charted by the U S Coast and Geodetic Survey are described as rivaling land canyons in size. Tiny gar fish meals include an inch and a quarter specimen preying on a minnow, with a two inch gar consuming sixteen young minnows. References to Lord Nelson and battles, England’s wars, and courses in foreign languages for U S servicemen appear amid miscellaneous observations.
