Social Security Card Not a Child Labor Permit
Charles E Bailey of the Social Security board in Clarksburg warns that a social security account card does not prove employability for minors under child labor laws. Some youths display the card to claim eligibility and some employers accept it, but employers remain responsible under federal and state hiring rules. The card records a wage account for future benefits, not employment eligibility.
