Senate probe opens on mail interference in steel strikes
Washington June 11. The Senate Post Office committee voted a broad preliminary inquiry into charges of interference with the mails during steel strikes and into steel company activities. Assistant Postmaster General Howes testified no plan to use troops to protect deliveries to strikebound plants. He said no discussions or agreements had occurred with unions regarding mail deliveries. Bridges produced a telegram from union officials claiming an understanding with postal officials about mail acceptance. Continued on page five.
