Republicans Begin Platform Draft Ahead of National Convention
The Republican resolutions committee will meet in Philadelphia next Monday to draft a platform amid foreign policy divisions and Europe’s crisis. Eight convention committees remain to be chosen, with Illinois delegation sizes noted. Harold B. Stassen as key notetaker and Joseph W. Martin Jr. as permanent chairman expected to be approved. National Chairman James A. Farley formed a 21 member committee in Chicago to select a keynote and permanent chair. Dr. Glenn Frank and nine regional Frank committee chairmen will be consulted on the platform. Many Republicans favor a broad foreign policy plank to keep unity.
