Long range U S F84G fighter bombers designed to carry atomic bombs and prepared to fly maximum effort missions now are based on Formosa the U S Far East Air Forces disclosed today.
Bus lines airlines and gas and oil firms led by United Fuel and Chesapeake and Potomac Tel Co appeared before the state Board of Public Works to challenge tentative 1955 property valuations. The filing notes disputed gas properties and contingent revenues, with requests for rating adjustments and possible rate increases to reflect the alleged underassessment of utilities. Other utilities listed tentative tangible property assessments amid ongoing two day hearings.

W C Baker and A K Galloway led praise for his leadership and teamwork, while R G Dotson chaired the committee and presented a television set to the couple. The gathering drew officials from Pittsburgh, Cumberland, Buffalo, and Fairmont, with music and prayers accompanying tributes to Stimson.
Grafton City Hospital Board has ordered Dr. R. D. Stout, newly elected member of City Council, to appear before it on Tuesday June 14 to show cause why he should not be compelled to complete satisfactory case history reports per hospital by laws. Administrator A J Williamson said the board took the action at its May 24 regular meeting and notified Dr Stout by letter.

West Virginia will raise the gasoline levy from five to six cents per gallon and diesel fuel by one cent this Friday at 12:01 a.m. The federal tax stays at two cents. RC Ferrell, head of the Tax Commission gasoline tax division, says the penny rise boosts yearly state revenue by about four million dollars to roughly twenty four million, funneled to the state road fund.
William Tuscing of Route 1 Tunnelton is jailed in Taylor county on drunken driving charges after a noon wreck at the Blueville intersection. He allegedly cut left in front of a tractor trailer driven by Robert Brown of Winchester Virginia, who was eastbound while Tuscing turned to enter Grafton. Tuscing suffered a skinned ear and his truck sustained considerable damage while the tractor trailer incurred about 100 dollars in damage. Flames raze area Seaside Heights New Jersey. A major fire destroyed a two and a half block area of the boardwalk, including about 25 buildings and concessions.
CHARLESTON The West Virginia Education Association urged local boards to consider cutting some classes to avoid overburdening teachers. The gloomy report said teacher morale is the lowest in memory and many are leaving or changing jobs due to lack of legislative pay raises.
