Some 6 600 quit work during the weekend, with 6900 more warned to idle as protests spread across Greene, Washington, and Payette counties. United Mine Workers District President William Hynes called the actions unauthorized and said miners are protesting the bill. Meetings were planned, and a 10 day vacation under government contracts may delay a general strike until July 7, amid stalled negotiations with mine operators.
