Parade Float Highlights Buckhannon Strawberry Festival
Taylor and Grafton areas played key roles in Buckhannon during the Strawberry Festival parade. The Kiwanis, Board of Trade, Kari Bureau and Quota Club supported a large float bearing Parlor County on a yellow backdrop. The Evans Furniture truck frame carried the float, decorated by Carroll Hawkins, Ralph Kunst and Joe Evans, with storage planned for reuse next year. The Grafton High School band and Industrial School unit provided marching entertainment, followed by a major pageant, A Southern Romance, directed by Perce Ross with a cast over 300. County officials praised Taylor County leaders for festival cooperation, and plans surfaced for future berry exhibits and a possible cold-pack cannery in Taylor County. The festival price for berries was fifty cents per gallon at Buckhannon.
