Mistake May Keep Cotton Exchange Shut
New York June 2 A clerical error in which Congress passed the annual agricultural appropriation bill with the Comer Amendment may keep the New York Cotton Exchange closed until legal questions about the trading contract are resolved. The exchange board had expected the clause's elimination to permit continued use of the current contract, while an unanimous vote adopted a bylaw to make the contract permanent. The exchange plans a pre-opening meeting to resolve the issue and resume trading at 10 o clock if possible.
