City Targets Illegal Parkers In City Parking Crackdown

One fined for overtime at a Walnut street meter. another for parking on the north side of West Main street. Baby Snatching Case Leads To Suspect Arrest In Philadelphia

A five month old, Gerald McCrohan, was taken from a carriage on a busy street yesterday and found today with a young couple about two miles away. Detectives Myers and Simmons pursued tips from drug stores about baby formula ingredients, spotting a blonde woman peering in a drug store window before locating the child. The sister Marjorie, watching over him while their mother Mrs. Margaret McCrohan, 30, shopped at a butcher shop nearby, identified the suspect as a woman matching the description. The man and woman were arrested.

Thetis sinks off English port as rescue effort proceeds

James B. Preston reports from Birkenhead on June 2 that 83 men remain trapped in the British submarine Thetis after it sank near an English port. Oxygen rescue gear was used to reach 4 of 87 crew and civilians aboard, with plans discussed to cut the hull to free others if needed. Admiralty officials push mass-rescue options while divers and builders monitor the perilous operation.
