Insurance murder plot tied to Powers estate in Ga

In Georgia on June 1 investigators probed the deaths of an unknown youth and farm overseer on Mrs. J. C. Powers property. They suspect life insurance schemes involving Mrs. Powers and Earl Manchester in the James Parks murder case for $14,000. Parks’ body with two bullet wounds was found on the riverfront last Tuesday. Manchester confessed to killing the youth, but the aged woman’s confession was later repudiated. An insurance company noted a settlement on a life policy tied to Powers, while a 1921 or 1922 death of a youth also appears linked. Authorities reviewed a possible $2,000 payout on Sam Wright’s death, with Powers named beneficiary. A grand jury session was convened to investigate.
