Daring Slayers Hanged For Klein Murder In Jailyard
Joliet July 15 three of seven condemned killers who slew deputy warden Peter Klein were hanged at 6 12 this morning in heavy fog before about 400 spectators. Ricardo Torrez Walter Stalesky and Charles Duchowski faced the trap grimly and exchanged taunting words as the noose went up. News said stunning crowds jammed the jail entrance as dawn broke and guards struggled to hold the line. The three had been denied barber service since their capture after the May 5 1926 breakout and earlier pleas for mercy failed with Governor Len Small and lawyer Mary Bell Spencer.

A shippers committee statement cited meetings with Chesapeake and Ohio Norfolk and Western and Louisville and Nashville executives and said no statement on the lake cargo case could be made for about ten days or two weeks.
