Senator Martin of Pennsylvania said Rep Hugh Scott Jr will resign as Republican national chairman if assured a top successor is found. He stressed Pennsylvanians will not be bypassed and that talks focus on who should replace Scott rather than on removal.

MOUNDSVILLE Ohio June 3 an abandoned automobile found along a wooded embankment provided a clue to the Carrollton couple murder. Police said the car may have been pushed 400 feet to hide it and had brush piled over it. Henry Untehzuber, a nearby farmer, reported a man bought food at a filling station near his property for two days after the killings.
Vatican decree by Pope Pius XII orders major excommunication for militant Catholics who align with communism. The measure bars sacraments and church comforts, applying to those who profess Marxist doctrine. Vatican sources call it a final warning to Catholics defending communism amid global Catholic population estimates.
Charleston report says readjustment allowances will end July 25 for all veterans discharged on or before July 25 1947. Director Cabell S. Three youths Ervin Caldwell 19 John Caldwell 19 Bernie Martin 16 and Walter Copley 20 were indicted on murder charges for the torch death of 68 year old Wayne Ridge teamster in his Queens home last May 6. Police say the victim was robbed and burned with kerosene poured over him.

Brown, married February 19 1941, alleging cruelty. Geraldine S. Stockett seeks divorce, custody of one child, and alimony from Donald E. Stockett, alleging desertion. they were married February 6 1941.
State police detective Walter E. Woods traveled to El Paso Texas to secure the return of Donald J. Horn a 21 year old charged with the murder of Muriel Baldridge Prestonsburg High School cheerleader Horn surrendered in El Paso and a requisition was issued by Governor Earle Clements. Horn fled Prestonsburg on June 27 the night of the homicide.
Raymond Jutila, the insane killer atop a water tower at Lima State Hospital, signaled a possible descent after a night up 130 feet high. He demanded a uniformed Western Union messenger deliver a telegram to Police Chief Wil Johnson of Warren, Ohio, to prompt his return to ground, then complained of thirst and a headache while remaining within reach of the water supply.
BESSEMER ALA Four thousand coal miners were idle yesterday in protest of 10 arrests after a mine employee complained of beatings. Thomas A Warnell 30 said he was beaten and kicked by about 50 men Friday night for not observing a three day work week. Warnell, a maintenance worker at the Short Creek mine of Tennessee Coal Iron & Railroad, is a member of the Short Creek UMW local. The UMW ordered a three day week and warned five other TC I mines. Ten men were arrested on assault with intent to murder warrants sworn by Warnell who identified the arrestees as local UMW members. All five TC I mines were idle Monday through Wednesday under the three day week.
