Charleston July 12 The State Road Commission opened more than 50 bids for fourteen road projects and two bridges as part of over 2.5 million dollars in planned work this week Low bids included Poling Construction Co for Pawpaw bridge substructure 22860 Vincennes Bridge for superstructure 34386 E B Mills Covington Ky for Flag Run bridge substructure 3487 and 4747 among others with projects spanning Kanawha Nicholas and Preston counties and bids from Monongahela Construction Co Huntington Engineering Co and Cole Brothers Morgantown totaling 434 222 for Northwestern Turnpike paving on multiple sections.

A violent thunderstorm swept southern Wisconsin causing one death and multiple injuries. A child died after being struck by a car as rain and wind battered Milwaukee, with a windshield blurred by speeding water. Temperature plunged from 74 to 62 in 20 minutes.

Two Important Road Contracts To Be Let
Charleston July 12 Two major road contracts totalling about 2 500 000 and bids on a dozen additional projects will be let by the state road commission. Concrete paving will complete the Pittsburgh route on U S 19 and forge a cut off between the northern panhandle and the Northwestern turnpike while extending the Morgantown Mount Morris segment to designate US 19. A 10 mile Fairmont Grafton link will shorten travel from the panhandle to Grafton Philippi and Elkins. Bids opening July 26 will cover these and 19 other projects including Route 4 improvements and a Shinnston extension with concrete shoulders and resurfacing.

Dublin July 12 George Plunkett son of Count George Plunkett was among ten men charged in court with conspiring to murder Kevin O Higgins vice president of the Free State council. They were arrested last night and remanded until Monday.
