Harold Beach Jr., 23, a filling station attendant, told Baltimore police he fed eight year old Sheila Ann Tuley with a kitchen knife on January 13. Police say the girl’s body was found on a neighbor s porch, dress torn and bloodied, near her home. Beach credited his act to a moment of rage after the girl resisted advances. He was arraigned and waived extradition as his mother was questioned. Beach had been living with his father in Cleveland.

Mrs Frances Steele Friedman widow of Max Friedman who ran a Grafton jewelry store for 42 years died in Baltimore after a diabetes illness. She lived at 460 West Main Street until May 1946, then moved to Baltimore with daughter Ada Clare. Survived by three children Sherman of Chicago Ti Charles Johns Hopkins pharmacist and Ada Clare. Funeral planned in Baltimore Thursday at 2 p.m. local time. Local relative Attorney Harry Friedman and family.
Frank F Fuscaldo state president of the West Virginia Junior Chamber of Commerce announced that the week of January 14 21 is observed nationally as Junior Chamber of Commerce Week. On January 21 the United States Junior Chamber will celebrate its 27th anniversary with over 1550 local organizations joining West Virginia in Founder's Day Banquets.
Municipal Police Court Judge Richard B. Bord sent his resignation by mail effective March 1 or earlier if a replacement is found. City charter requires council appointment to an attorney. Bord, born May 30 1919 in Grafton, is entering politics and filed for prosecuting attorney on the Republican ticket.

Yesterday's high reached 41 and the night low fell to 33. State crews and plows worked overnight and this morning on Route 119, the worst highway in the county, as snow began to turn to slush.

All 46 survivors who abandoned the Army ship Joseph V Connolly were rescued after 11 hours at sea. They were taken aboard two other vessels, the Gen R E Callan and Union Victory, with help from long range Air Force planes from Kindley Field Bermuda.
