Large passenger plane crashes near Savannah Georgia
A twin engine DC-3 passenger plane crashed in a marsh by the Savannah River eight miles southeast of Savannah. Civil Aeronautics Authority notes a Coastal Airlines plane of the same type was overdue at Miami after taking off from Raleigh this morning. Pilot John Register reported wreckage in several parts with no survivors. the plane bore license NC 60331. Earlier pilots had claimed survivors.

Massive Brooklyn waterfront blaze devastates pier and ships
A five alarm fire on Brooklyn’s waterfront destroyed a 1,000 foot pier and its cargo, damaged the freighter SS Rio Paraná, and burned two barges. The blaze lit lower Manhattan and the harbor as 300 firefighters fought flames. four firemen were rescued after falling overboard. The 8,498 ton AR Argentine freighter was towed aflame into the East River then re-ignited before fireboats extinguished it. Authorities could not confirm where the fire started.

Believe Local Cow Died Of Rabies
A cow owned by Percy Weaver of Route 119 is believed to have died of rabies this week. An analysis of the animal's head will be received from West Virginia University this evening, officials said. Deputy Sheriff W. H. Canfield transported the head to Morgantown for testing. Monongalia County has been quarantined for rabies.
