New Increases In Freight Rates To Start Soon
Washington dispatch reports new emergency railroad freight rate hikes take effect January 11 after revised tariffs filed with the Interstate Commerce Commission. The increases total six percent east of the Mississippi and four percent west, with zone 1 seeing five percent. ICC estimates the changes yield about 425 million dollars annually, subject to state approvals.

Pilot and Co Pilot Killed In DC-3 Crash Near Brandywine
A two person crew on a cargo DC-3 loaded with flowers died when the plane plowed into trees and burned near Brandywine Maryland about 8 10 a m EST after departing Raleigh North Carolina bound for Boston. Pilot Stuart Morrill of Teaneck New Jersey and Theodore Catz of New York were the only aboard. Eyewitnesses saw the craft in trouble and seem to have steered toward an old road before crashing. The accident is under investigation by Coastal Cargoes of Teterboro New Jersey.

Berlin January 6 The U S army issued an ultimatum to the Harnack House Club urging an end to snubbing enlisted men. Innocent verdict in Honor slaying by jury
A Philadelphia jury of seven women and five men found Dorothy Elizabeth Reeves innocent of the killing of her sailor husband Leslie Reeves, 29, last Sept. 5. The defendant, sobbing with relief, faced the verdict after a brief deliberation. Taylor county opens first milk pasteurization plant
Victor J. Lucas Sr., owner of the largest local dairy farm, opened Taylor county’s first pasteurization plant today. The private facility marks the end of a two month expansion program, adding equipment and facilities. It will supply both pasteurized and raw milk and has already hired three more workers, with plans to add more as business grows. The Lucas dairy farm sits north of U S Route 50 on Warder road.
