Explosion Kills Woman, Injures Seven in Seat Pleasant Package

A package explosion in Seat Pleasant Maryland killed a woman, Mrs. Lesona Hall Brady, and wounded seven others from the Hall family. The blast demolished the kitchen, sent victims to nearby hospitals, and left 16 year old Leslie Hall missing part of a hand. Investigators traced the package to possible delivery to Mrs Brady with confusion over its origin.

Gas Overcomes Workers In Tunnel On Bruno Island

About 45 workers employed by the Duquesne Light Company were overcome by gas in a tunnel 40 feet underground on Bruno Island in the Ohio River. Nearly a score of men were admitted to the hospital with unknown injury severity as the gas spread through small quarters where workers changed clothing. Deputy sheriff noted four men were struck, and three of four Asia gas sources were referenced in initial reports.

Robbery attempt wounds Robeson deputy in Lumberton

Four unidentified men visited Columbus County deputy sheriff Hoke B. Smith at his home in Lumberton and opened fire after restraining him. Smith, in hospital, said three assailants seized him while the fourth fired. two bullets pierced his chest, one hit his spinal column, another struck his hip and a fourth wounded his arm. He had earlier conducted a raid on a liquor still.
