Senator Harley M. Kilgore died of a brain hemorrhage and lay in state at the Cafe Funeral Home Beckley before a 2 p.m. service at First Baptist Church. The body then went to Fort Myer Chapel for full military honors conducted by Post Chaplain Shoe-smaker. Burial followed at Arlington National Cemetery with pallbearers from the West Virginia delegation and Senate party. Survived by widow and two children Robert Kilgore and Anna T. Young.
Manchester England. Organ grinder Stephen Trevor ton, 65, was chased into court by officers who found him slumped over his barrel organ in front of a bar. He blamed beer for his condition claiming they paid him with beer instead of money. The judge discharged him.
In Charleroi Pa a 16 year old, Ross Witmyer, was killed Tuesday night at a home after a dare made by friend David Lauderbaugh 16. Lauderbaugh was charged with involuntary manslaughter and released on $1000 bond. The weapon was a .22 rifle borrowed from a neighbor. two shells were loaded before the clip was malfunctions.
City officials warn tardy water, sewage and garbage accounts must be paid by March 5 or action will ensue. Salt will be applied to delinquent garbage and sewage accounts and water shutoffs will follow if unpaid. Payments will be allocated to water, sewage and garbage each.
Miss Jean Hinkins, Athena Andrews, and Elizabeth Allen Murray are listed as candidates for the Centennial Talent Show. Hinkins, a Grafton High senior sponsored by the Lions Club, will perform a piano solo and intends to major in education at West Virginia University. Andrews, a 1954 Grafton graduate and Fairmont State College sophomore, will do a modern dance and has held multiple school roles. Murray, 19, WVU sophomore and Grafton High graduate, will read in the talent show and is active in sports and sororities.
