Allied air forces launched a daylight strike along the Northern German coast after a heavy RAF attack on Nuernberg, center of submarine engine production. German radio claimed American heavy bombers joined the assault, while RAF fighters repelled two attacking Allied planes off England.

Washington News reports the Budget Bureau under Harold D. Smith announced a policy barring most federal agency questionnaires from public use without approval. Tax returns are exempt. agencies must justify practicality and burden before issuing surveys.
Southern coal producers attacked John Lewis led effort to absorb all mine foremen and clerks into the United Mine Workers. In Washington, Rep Smith proposed excluding supervisory personnel from the act’s definition of employee. The clash centers on unionizing foremen and other supervisors as of April 1.
John Kmetz from Pennsylvania anthracite mines takes over District 50 the miscellaneous unit of John L. Lewis’s United Mine Workers as Lewis orders a shakeup. Ora Gasaway resigns for health reasons and Kmetz, in his forties, is named organizer and international board member for district 1.

Erie Pa Feb 26 An explosion followed by fire destroyed the W J Bridger dairy plant at Kearsarge yesterday causing more than 75000 in damage. No one was injured Fire Chief Clyde C Lyons said he and Bridger heard a sharp hissing sound before the blast shattering windows.
Huntington merchants reported a soap shortage after an unfounded rumor that soap would be frozen at midnight. One establishment sold about 6,000 bars plus 60 cases of cap powder, and some stores limited purchases to 11 items to cope with the surge.
Boeing workers returned to their posts at the Seattle area plant as union leaders threatened broad stoppages until the War Labor Board acts on a wage dispute. Three plants closed for three hours after a mass meeting and parade drew about 20 000 AFL participants. The company reported about 97 percent of workers resumed duties at lunch. A Monday 24 hour meeting was urged.
Washington February 26 The Office of War Information said there will be few sponges available for household use while fighting men need sponges for military use. Shortages blamed on wartime demand for sponge animals, vegetables and synthetics.
Charleston February 26 The house of delegates insurance committee favors a substitute plan for self regulation of pre payment hospital and medical associations, protecting service groups and the public Holt said the measure follows rejection of a senate bill placing associations under the state insurance commissioner He rejected Deputy Commissioner Justice’s claim that the substitute would bar racketeers and leave people to exploitation without law or official interference.

It also says German counterattacks southwest of Kramatorsk in the Donets basin were repulsed and one Red army unit destroyed over a battalion of enemy infantry.
New Delhi February 26 British communique says RAF bombed the town of Yohang in Akyab district and targets in the Myittha valley in Western Burma. Fighters and Blenheim bombers swept the area destroying railway trains and river craft. all aircraft returned safely.
The Catholic Bible Association released a revised New Testament and Commentary translated from the Latin Vulgate. The effort aims to render scripture in today’s terms to foster habitual reading, with scholars led by Rev. John E. Steinmueller contributing translations and commentary.
The national housing agency notes material shortages require stricter use of existing structures. Despite gains in building for war workers, the program to provide 3,000,000 units ends June 30. Director Blandford says no new housing is justifiable unless existing homes and space are maximized.

Berkeley county milk consumers must pay two additional cents per quart starting March 1 as distributors raise from 12 to 14 cents under an Office of Price Administration ceiling of 15 cents. The move affects Martinsburg area and reflects OPA policy.
