Chicago on February 24 Dr Wiley pure food chief declared fudge a national menace. He warned its excess carbohydrates create adipose tissue and turn college and high school girls into roly poly figures, urging families to curb fudge consumption amid a nationwide craze.
Philadelphia reports two hundred mounted state constabulary from Pottsville Es-Barre Punxsutawney and nearby areas arrived to bolster security amid a rail workers strike. Wages disputes and alleged company rigidity prompt arbitration talks under the Erdman act, while miners clash in Clarksburg leaving several injured.
Last night at No 13 East Washington Street Mrs Mary Stemple Jefferys and Mr Richey Scott Middleton of Louisville Ky wed in a small ceremony led by Rev AP Richardson of St Pauls Lutheran. The couple plan a multi city wedding trip before settling in Grafton. Middleton, a Louisville publisher executive, hails from Aurora West Virginia and is related to Fanny Heyson Rice author of Mrs Wiggs of the Cabbage Patch.
Last evening the city council met in special session with Mayor James W. Love presiding to address the March gas bill. The body decided to sell city property near the water station and appointed a committee to oversee the sale and related actions. The street committee will quantify damage to streets from gas work and coordinate repairs with the gas company. The council approved J. C. McFarland’s quarantine bill for $19, and the water committee was authorized to install new appliances at the water station to cut future gas costs.
Forest Jones, son of Mr and Mrs Fred Jones of the South Side, hurt his hand pounding a torpedo that exploded on Monday. A gathering added to the soreness, but the boy is getting along all right.
Mrs A J Brannon underwent surgery at City Hospital today and is reported to be recovering well. No steps toward settlement were taken on Wednesday.
Coroner's jury links William Seyler to Jane Adams death with verdict that she died between Feb. 4 and Feb. 13 by his hand or knowledge. Brother Orvis Seyler jailed on $2,000 bail. both brothers to May's Landing jail. Details include missing home return, drag scene at Million Dollar pier, autopsy notes on underclothing and possible blow to left eye.
Funeral for Andrew J Myers who died February 17 in Downey California was held Sunday. Interment occurred in the west. Death caused by heart trouble was sudden. Sweat Melody Flour.
Washington February 24 Representative Hubbard is reported to be improving from recent surgery and should return to the House in a few days. Senator Elkins introduces two amendments to the river and harbor bill proposing a Deckers Creek survey at Morgantown and a $50,000 boost for Tug Fork and Lock No 2 construction. He plans a later amendment for the Little Kanawha river pending review board findings.
Charleston February 24 Judge M P Malcom stated the liquor question has moved beyond the county court and issued a signed note that he will not vote to grant liquor licenses for the rest of the fiscal year ending July 1. He warned whiskey interests they will face no license vote for the remainder of his term if they attack the court.
Cam Thorne and B. Reale of Weaver Randolph county were brought to Grafton by U S Deputy Marshal Hupp on a blind tiger charge for selling intoxicants without a federal license. Witnesses testified. Reale was represented by J Blackburn of Philippi. Both held for the federal grand jury at Wheeling in April, then released on bond.
Mr W T Latham son of Hon George R Latham Buckhannon stayed in the city with cousin Postmaster Ernest L Love before heading to North Carolina. He will operate a very large timber tract there, a project expected to take at least five years to cut and market, ranking among the state's largest operations.

President Taft told the Newark Board of Trade he wanted to "make good" after a year in the White House and thanked Governor Murphy for his praise. Taft praised the Newark welcome as sincere and said it would lift his spirits on returning to Washington. More than 800 members and guests attended the dinner in Kruger's auditorium.
