Partly cloudy and windy with cold air and possible snow flurries. Highs expected from 24 to 30 today with a cold tonight. Thursday brings more cloudiness and continued cold. Temperatures show 24 hour high 42, low 28, last night 12. Tygarts Dam yesterday peaked at 46 and fell to 17. this morning at 7 a.m. 17 and at 11 a.m. 30.
Weather notes show a mix of forecast accuracy and inaccuracy for Grafton. The Blueville station logged 12 degrees low last night, 17 at Tygart Dam and 20 on Main Street at 7 am, with no significant precipitation despite early snow flurries. The weatherman predicted 30 for today, 15 tonight locally and 10 in the mountains, with Thursday expected cloudy and cold.

State Trooper H E Parks reported a three car collision about 13 miles north of Graf ton on U S Route 119 causing $500 in property damage with no injuries. Drivers were Lee Ray Fogg Clarksburg Gerald James Warner Wolf Summit Route 1 and Jack Chester Mc Donald Morgantown. The accident was evidently caused by icy highway conditions.
Bailey arrived at the courthouse to find his office chilly after a pop bottle was thrown through a window from the parking lot at the side. A glass mess on the floor was all that harm, and the window has been repaired.
The council studied an ordinance by City Attorney J Guy Allender to raise police court costs for guilty pleas and felonies. Provisions include a $3.50 police fine, 50 cent docket copies, $2 bond recognizance, 50 cents for exaction papers, and various per item charges. Council also discussed a fire protection assessment and authorized payments to WV League of Municipalities and a $2,867.57 bill.
U S Senator Chapman Revercomb approves Loren A Hoffman for permanent Grafton postmaster role after two years as acting postmaster. Eisenhower submitted Hoffman's name to the Senate for confirmation today.
In a White House briefing President Eisenhower agreed to a nationwide radio and TV address about the Middle East situation. Congressional leaders discussed sanctions against Israel but Hagerty said the issue remained unresolved. Dulles and Lodge attended the session as Knowland withheld details after the meeting.
Governor Ceci H. Underwood wrapped up a statewide radio television address when the broadcast was interrupted and he began expanding on the final sentence. Technical crews, stunned by the improvised flourish, faced a chaotic end as stations received numerous calls from viewers.
Saint Augustine High School girls basketball teams the Augiettes and Stompers make their first court appearance Thursday night February 21 at 8. Hometown captains Sandra Barlow and Rosie Behan lead their lines with Barlow joined by Litzinger Kunst Keener Smith Coughlin and substitutes Slaton Murray Samsiager Slaton. Stompers feature Behan Scarcelli Louise Ford Jenkins and Takacs with Jenkins joining as substitutes. Dorothy Gamslager is manager and referees Barbara Duffy and Litzinger return to Alma Mater for the tilt.
Temperatures will average six degrees below normal about 38 degrees. Cold through most of the period with moderating trend Sunday or Monday. Snow likely Friday and again Monday. Total precipitation expected one quarter to one half inch in rainfall equivalent.
RANDALLSTOWN Md Three persons were killed and one missing when an oil stove explosion ignited a rambling stone and log farmhouse. Father Chester Livesay and two children survived in critical or severely burned condition. other family members were accounted for or lost in the blaze.
Dr. Clarence Faward Macartney, Ti retired minister and former moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in the USA, died Tuesday night at his residence on the Geneva College campus in Beaver Falls Pennsylvania.
In the Bronx New York two 17 year olds used a stripped hot rod in St Raymond Cemetery as a test ground. James Navan of Sterlin Conn died instantly when the car crashed among tombstones traveling about 60 mph. William J Schroeder of New York was critically injured. A third teen not in the car said they bought the auto a year ago and added parts until it ran. Navan had been staying with his grandmother due to a death in the family.
Gov. Cecil H. Underwood urged veto of a bill placing state employees under civil service. He argued it would strip executive control, create a personnel director, and hinder merit protections. He criticized rushed passage and lack of bipartisan safeguards, calling for study of merit system expansion instead.
Bristol, Va P Commitments totaled 687573 for flood relief in West Virginia, Virginia and Kentucky have been made by the Red Cross, director John Russell announced today. The Red Cross set aside 2 million for flood disaster relief activities in the areas ravaged by floods three weeks ago. Expenditures may exceed that amount before the program ends. A total of 8732 families in the three states have so far applied for assistance.
