UP reports Irving Potash, American Communist leader, will depart March 4 for Poland and establish a new home behind the Iron Curtain rather than risk another jail term in the United States. The move follows his anticipated legal jeopardy and signals a shift in Cold War tensions shaping exiled political figures.
A string of raids by state county and city police last night and today targeted Speno's Cue Club and nearby establishments on Main Latrobe St and Liberty Court. Officers seized whiskey at Speno's and fined or charged owners. Olaf Piluman Harold Boston and Tony Olivia faced gambling and liquor violations with arrests and bonds set for Monday hearings.
A series of crashes across West Virginia Ohio and Kentucky left five people dead. A car train collision near Pt Pleasant West Virginia killed three aboard and one in Cabell County. In Ohio a crash near Green Bottom killed two, while a wreck on a bridge in Floyd County caused another fatality.

Jefferys retained secretary, and no speaker was named yet. A new committee to select the speaker was discussed with next meeting set for March 4. The group also sought a 2000 yearly legislative appropriation backed by local veterans groups. Flags for Grafton were turned over to the Legion for display for a year. Leland Price resigned health reasons after years directing parade duties.
The dollar volume of department store sales in the Fifth Federal Reserve District declined 5 percent from the same week in 1954, according to the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond.
Three new contributions boost the Patricia Knight fund to 074.52 with 852 on deposit at the bank. At Grafton City hospital Erica is said to be in good condition and improving though skin graft needs are undecided. Hospital costs for 27 days total 6800 with 446 paid from the fund. Donations today come from Newburg Electric Shop Edward McCracken and the Pruntytown Homemakers Club.
