Eighth Man Dead Found After Hazleton Mine Flood
In Hazleton on February 18 seven or eight miners trapped by a water rush in an Janesville anthracite mine were saved, with one dead. The victim was Al Kurity, 40, of Hazleton, found buried in mud after debris piles formed from surface water entering the mine. Bernard McAlarney and George D. Schutter, both Hazleton residents, narrowly escaped as flood waters roared through tunnels from a basin above. The report notes a dynamite blast used to create a timbering adjustment prior to the deluge.

In Boise Idaho during February 1981 a jury consisting of dog owners acquitted Sport a brown and white pointer of charges after a two year old was injured. Jurors Cant Decide Case In 2800 Damages Suit
Unofficially reported divided 11 to 1 in favor of the defendant, the jury that heard the 2800 damage suit brought by John W. and Eva Janet Ault against the city of Grafton was discharged late yesterday by Judge Herbert W. Philadelphia Feb 18 Mary O Connor, 19, a girl athlete, was acquitted of all charges in the mud puddle death of five year old Nancy Glenn last Labor Day. Jurors debated late last night and reported at 12 20 p m. the foreman announced the verdict amid a cheer from court observers. The autopsy found Nancy died from mud and water in her lungs. The defense urged acquittal while the judge instructed the jurors on their duties.
