Four-State Auto Theft Ring Smashed At Huntington
Federal and state authorities cracked a four state auto theft ring that operated about 18 months using Huntington as a disposal base. Cars stolen from Illinois Michigan and Ohio were altered and sold as used cars with titles obtained from various states. 13 cars valued over 80000 were recovered in the Huntington area. Switzer Bias 39 Huntington constable was jailed on an accessory charge and held on auto theft warrants along with Harold Jacobs 37 Albert Smolish 35 and William Steinbrecker 54 who were or were being sought on federal and state charges.

Court Upholds Conviction Of Raleigh Janitor On Ballot Tampering
The West Virginia Supreme Court today upheld the Raleigh county conviction of James Edward Simon, a courthouse janitor, for tampering with ballots in the November 9, 1946 general election. Judge James B. Riley dissented. Simon was sentenced to one to 10 years in prison. co defendants Thornhill and Lilly were acquitted in separate trials in Logan county.
