Authorities investigated a border gun incident in El Paso with stray bullets hitting downtown and the Paso Del Norte hotel. One prisoner was captured, no casualties reported as gunfire sent rifles and bullets across the river and shattered windows along the riverfront.
President Hoover, rested after two days of Atlantic fishing, stays aboard the Saunterer to review the first air mail from Miami and talks with aides as he plans to land another catch. The presidency maintains close contact with naval arms talks as Hoover prepares to move the boat later. In Lake Orest, Florida, Irene McLaughlin’s dog refuge Orphans Storm burned destroying 83 dogs. McLaughlin promises a new kennel complex and seeks an official fire investigation and possible prosecution if arson is found.
Women’s Home Missionary Society hosts a chicken supper at Pauls M B Church on Thursday February 13 at 7 PM. Tickets priced at 50 cents. Proceeds support church programs.
In New York on February 12, Martha Widauer, age 40, killed herself and her three children ages 10, 7, and 4 with gas after losing $100 her husband had given her to meet a mortgage payment. The bodies were found in the kitchen by husband Oscar on returning from work.
Twenty five individuals are indicted in Spokane for a vast conspiracy to move liquor from Canada to northwest U S cities by mule pack trains. A traffic manager allegedly timed shipments with weather, using white mules in snow and armed guards to deter hijacking as packers strapped liquor in pouches on saddles.
New Orleans, Feb 12. Three street cars were dynamited last night in a renewal of bombings tied to a strike by transportation workers from last summer. One woman passenger was injured. No arrests were made. The episodes raise the total to over 65 trolleys dynamited since tensions between street car workers and jitney operators began.
Redlands Calif February 12 a brick draped sable train carried President Lincoln to burial along New York Central tracks from New York to Utica. Engineer George W Wrightson recalls guarding the coffin car and the spike secured switches to foil tampering as crowds saluted. The cortege was given right of way and at Syracuse a vast reception greeted the train.

New York Feb 12 fire consumed the North German Lloyd liner Muenchen as it lay at Hudson River pier. The blaze killed two, caused 3 000 600 dollars in damage. Fire fed by nitrate of potash shellac and other cargo burned for hours despite efforts of land and river crews. Of 267 passengers, 80 remained aboard during inspections and were ashore unaware the ship burned. Explosions followed as flames spread and girders or superstructures were torn away.
Bluefield, February 12 Three members of the Mullins family perished in a blaze that razed J Harmon Mullins home at Brush Fork Virginia about 100 miles away. Killed were Mrs J Harmon Mullins and two children Emma Lee 14 and James 12. Injured were Mrs Jack Robinson 23 of Clico Virginia and two other Mullins children.
