Grafton area drenched by 1.25 inch rainfall
A heavy downpour saturated the Grafton area totaling 1.25 inches last night. The Huntingdon weather bureau said a cold front from the west has arrived and will bring more rain. Temperatures shifted from 55 yesterday to 40 overnight and 64 by midmorning, with a forecast of 25 to 30 tonight and more clouds and colder weather on Friday.

Liquor Agent Wounded During Moonshine Raid
West Virginia liquor officers report Arthur L. Jones age 41 of Athens was shot in the upper thigh during a moonshine still raid between Welch and Bluefield. Jones, a state Liquor Control agent, was hospitalized in Bluefield Sanitarium in good condition. The force said three other officers were present. E. E. Gwinn headed to Welch to lead the investigation while G. G. Kirkpatrick reported details from the field.

Australian War Bride Shot Dead in Paden City Home
Mrs. Brooks Garrett, 32, an Australian war bride, was killed by four gunshot wounds in her bedroom last night. Prosecutor Willim Lemon said the 32 calibre revolver was found beside the bed and a formal inquest is scheduled for tomorrow at 2 p.m. in a local funeral home. The couple wed while the husband served in Australia during World War II.

Veteran B O Policeman Killed in Route 2 Crash
At Hogsett on State Route 2 a head on collision killed Lt. Albert A. Sutter, 55, of Parkersburg and critically injured Felix Goldstein, 62, a Huntington clothing salesman. State Trooper R C Dilley said Sutter may have fallen asleep at the wheel, causing his car to cross into Goldstein’s vehicle.
