Observers expect a Supreme Court decision on the gold clause cases next Monday after a Saturday conference. Chief Justice Hughes did not indicate an immediate ruling and the court adjourned for the weekend. Public seats were to be barred Monday as the decision release drew peak interest.

Police killed two robbery suspects after a car refused to halt on a highway near Unity. The driver was later identified as Thomas Grierson, 24, while the other man was described as a Chicago resident about 33. Officials said both fired at troopers before the crash.
Anna Grigorieva, who cast her two young sons into the paddle wheel of a river steamer fearing her fiancé would not marry her if aware of the children, was sentenced to 10 years in prison. The husband reported the disappearance of the boys last June. she gave changing stories and evidence showed she drowned the children aged four and six.
The government asks the Supreme Court to decide immediately if it can condemn land for low cost housing and slum clearance projects. The case centers on a $1,616,000 Louisville, Kentucky project and warns that delay could create chaotic conditions for the federal emergency administrator of public works' program.

Three attendants at a San Francisco night club are held in connection with the death of Major Charles A. Ross battalion commander of the 80th Infantry Regiment. Ross was fatally injured after a fight that climaxed a gay party celebrating the regiment's birthday anniversary.
Mrs Ruby Brown Flanagan aged 49, a teacher at Fetterman graded school, died at 2 30 this morning at her Blueville home after a five day illness from influenza and pneumonia. Born in Grafton April 11, 1885 and a lifelong resident, she was married to Charles E Flanagan about 25 years ago and leaves three sons. Continued on page eight.
The defense for Drexel R. George, former Marion county deputy sheriff, prepares to present its case Monday in the embezzlement trial involving $234,000 in county funds. The state wrapped its case yesterday, with a weekend recess taken.
The FERA workers strike was settled late today after a conference at the FERA headquarters on East Main street. Administrator George Harwood and Paul Gunn joined Charles E. McCoy and L. W. Tingler to announce that all emergency coal requests will be covered up to available Taylor county funds. Unemployed on work relief projects are to report Monday February 11 1935, and workers who walked off the job yesterday may make up lost time.
Senate sub committee led by Senator M M Neely of West Virginia will hold hearings on the Guffey coal bill which would classify soft coal as a public utility and subject it to federal production control and price fixing. Senators Minton Moore Metcalf and Davis join Neely on the panel as hearings follow work on the 30 hour week bill.
Washington February 9 Airmail service is proposed from Pittsburgh to Greensboro linking with West Virginia routes. Representative Kee says the Post Office Department favors the plan and it will likely be established if approved in the Post Office bill. Cities on the direct line include Charleston Bluefield Clarksburg Fairmont and Morgantown.
Washington reports President Roosevelt may intercede in the $4.83 billion work and relief bill fight. He is expected to send a message urging removal of the prevailing wages amendment, which would set public works wages equal to private local scales. The amendment, pushed by Senator McCarran and approved 12 to 8, seeks locality based wage standards for emergency projects.
Indications in Washington point to a bill form proposal to build an 11 million dollar army air base in Hawaii. Secret hearings by the House military committee with General MacArthur and other officers discussed establishing a Pacific defense arm at the far point of U S defense.
Washington reports that the Senate may consider a controversial copyright treaty and related legislation this session. Senator Duffy of Wisconsin, chairman of the subcommittee that held hearings last year, said the measure was pushed by American and foreign writers seeking protection for their works. Opposition from American printers claimed the plan would deprive them of work by allowing easier importation of foreign writings.
Arley, England, Feb 9 AP A market gardener named John Puckering briefly died during a serious abdominal operation. The British Medical Journal described his four and a half minute lapse as he saw villagers he knew and a rosy afterlife. He reported happiness and vivid visions before revival.
Charleston February 9 22 John Harvey Foster 46 of Charleston was struck and killed yesterday while walking on the highway at South Charleston. Eugene Ray driver of the car was beleaguered under band of manslaughter senate.
The Taylor County Bar Association met to oppose pending legislation affecting circuit court judge elections and the state judicial district, with resolutions sent to local legislators and judiciary committee chairs. The resolutions, released by John L. Hechmer, state the association’s unanimous adoption during a February 8, 1935 meeting and oppose changing the 19th Judicial District.
Flemington New Jersey February 9 Bruno Hauptmann observed the final day of testimony in his trial with a measured calm saying he is satisfied the jury will see he had nothing to do with the Lindbergh kidnapping. He told his attorney Egbert Rosecrans his conscience is clear and he will not be bothered by the outcome.
A tornado struck the Mur gay farm community near Grapeland Texas killing ten Black residents and injuring forty others. Thirty one tenant houses were razed and property damaged across the area including Nineveh Leon County where another group of tenants suffered injuries.
Anne Morrow Lindbergh and her mother Mrs. Dwight Morrow sat somberly as the state sought to clear insinuations about Violet Sharpe, the dead maid, and Isidor Fisch. Witnesses offered alibis for Fisch and rebutted defense claims about ladder evidence in the 1932 kidnapping of Charles A. Lindbergh Jr. The trial entered its twenty ninth day with testimony from Ottilia Hoerber and state trooper Louis Bornmann.
