Tragic death of George Yates in Wheeling yard
George A Yates son of Mr and Mrs Jed W Yates of the First ward died at noon in the Wheeling yards of the B and O railroad while coupling a baggage car to a yard engine. A frozen water tank misled him and his head was crushed. He died at City Hospital at 12 20 pm. He had worked about 30 days for the railroad and is survived by parents and several siblings. Remains brought to Wheeling and funeral arrangements to be announced. The family and friends extend condolences.

Jewelry dispute seeks return of lent jewels in Wheeling
Mrs Laura F Schenk through lawyers Hubbard and Hubbard and John C Berry filed a bill of particulars in the Wheeling circuit court to compel Clem E Peters, a noted businessman, to return jewels loaned to him for 700 in January 1911. The jewels valued at 2000, with 700 loaned for six months plus interest, were not settled and Peters would not settle for less than 1260. On January 20 1912 Schenk offered 750 which was refused, and the court is asked to appoint a receiver to ascertain the amount due for the return of the jewels.

Miners Trapped in Amador Mine Rescue Efforts Continue
In Amador City California 65 miners are entombed after a cave in at the Hunker Hill mine.
