In Pittsburgh a gunman abducted Lorraine Rodgers, 20, from a Lang Hotel room after fatally shooting Walter Henry, 49, who tried to intervene. The two assailants escaped with Rodgers. police described a pistol transfer during the attack.
Rain totaling 1.57 inches in about 36 hours swept the Tri County area, overflowing creeks and flooding low lands while ditches and culverts were cleared. No major slides or blocked roads reported though some water crossed highways. The interval began Saturday night with continuous rain, briefly shifted to snow, then eased. London reports indicate Foreign Minister Anthony Eden deplored Red China’s UN rebuff while hoping other means could yield a Formosan cease fire. He and Jawaharlal Nehru reportedly urged a hands off policy in Sino American evacuation of the Tachens, and Eden denied urging Russia to facilitate easing the American withdrawal.
