Roanoke Virginia February 3 1931 William B Straightitt aged 31 placed a stick of dynamite in his belt and blew himself to bits in a snow covered alley near his home. A girl companion Jewell Williamson aged 34 witnessed the act and told police she begged him not to go through with it. Police reported blasts tore holes in her clothing from the detonator and flashlight batteries. City coroner Charles M Irvin ruled death by own action.
