Eight Die In Parker Dam Dormitory Fire
A dormitory fire at Parker Dam on the Colorado River killed eight men and injured about ninety others as winds fanned the flames through the building and into the mess hall. The Metropolitan Water District reported the fatalities and said names would be released later while search operations began for missing bodies. Parker Dam, located roughly 100 miles south of Boulder Dam, is part of a $20 million aqueduct project diverting water for Los Angeles and nearby communities.
