Charleston reports the West Virginia chamber of commerce says 1948 outlooks are unusually bright with coal output set at about 169 million tons in 1947, 16 million above 1946, and exports likely to maintain near 193 levels. Retail sales in 735 stores rose 23.3 percent in the first 11 months, bank checks exceeded 500 million in November, and wages topped 225 million with miners’ pay up 30 percent through September.
