BRUSSELS December 27 Emile Vandervelde veteran Belgian Labor party leader and former head of the Second Internationale died today at age 72 after longtime heart disease. He had served as vice premier and health minister and was known as the mother in law of cabinets for his influence. He fell ill Sunday night and died early this morning after lecturing in South America and visiting the United States in 1914 to press Belgiums atrocity case before President Wilson.

War Veteran Owes Life To Railroad Men
Alfred Richards a 38 year old war veteran from St Albans Vermont credits two railroad workers for saving his life. Slumped across tracks near Boston the men halted a Boston to Portland express just minutes away. Richards had not eaten in three days and had wandered to Boston to seek a pension. Fireman Ray Christianson warned the engineer Ralph F Sawyer and the local stopped in time. Richards spent Christmas day in a Boston rail station watching travelers with gifts before his rescue.
