A near disaster occurred Saturday night when a westbound freight train struck the eastbound passenger train at Shaffer's Cut near the city. A spring track device protruded, smashing several windows but injuring no passengers. Damages to the freight and tracks reached about $1,000, with no serious harm reported amid holiday travel.

Owen Hedrick, a well known local youth, was arrested Saturday evening on a street by Officer Stone of the Baltimore and Ohio railroad.
