Elkins reports Lieut Ralph N Read of Langley Field Va bailed out after his army plane stalled and burned in West Virginia. He walked about twenty hours through a desolate area before reaching a farm house on a state route and was then transported 40 miles by auto to Elkins. Read, 24, a member of the 37th Pursuit Squadron, was en route from Langley Field to Selfridge Field Mich when the engine failed and he parachuted to safety. He said the height of the jump is unknown.

Plainsville Connecticut reports that Mrs. Calvin Coolidge, John and Florence Trumbull Coolidge, and their new daughter Cynthia will celebrate Christmas together. In Weston, seventeen CCC members escaped serious injury when their truck rolled down a 15 foot bank into a creek after the driver dozed at the wheel.

Jury Fails to Reach Verdict in Boylen Murder Trial

After a four hour and twenty minute deliberation, Judge A J Valentine dismissed the jury in the Andry A Boylen murder case at Parsons Tucker county. Boylen claimed self defense in the shooting of Clarence L Nestor on Nestors farm near Bull Run last October. He remains jailed without bail pending a second trial at the March term. One Nestor brother testified for Boylen while another brother helped fund his lawyer fees. Attorney Eugene Sommerville represents Boylen.

Dutchman 10 Loses Life For Reich Blaze

Leipzig Germany December 23 Marinus van der Lubbe a Dutch bricklayer was sentenced to be executed for starting the Reichstag fire last February. The court found treason, while four other defendants were acquitted. The trial spanned sessions at the scene, with van der Lubbe insisting he acted alone. The others maintained innocence.
