Christmas Baskets to Be Distributed Friday by Schools

Grafton school children in grades and high school will distribute Christmas baskets next Friday through the Jr Red Cross Hi Y Club and Girl Reserve Club. Lists of those needing aid have been turned in by the schools monitors will handle distribution. Surplus goes to the Salvation Army. The plan is led by the Junior Red Cross with the Hi Y and Girl Reserves coordinating at the high school.

Major Shepard Testifies In Wife Poisoning Trial

Major Charles A. Shepard testified in his trial for his wife’s alleged poisoning. He portrayed Mrs. Shepard as addicted to alcohol and narcotics and said his life with her began to unravel after their 1916 honeymoon. He described attempts to quit liquor and noted narcotic use discovered at Fort Riley in 1929. A separate note mentions Jackson County, Oregon collecting $39,000 in grazing fees from cattlemen.

Goudy Rites to Be Held on Wednesday

Funeral services for Charles H. Goudy retired Baltimore and Ohio Railroad man and Civil War veteran will be held Wednesday at 2 PM from his daughter Mrs H L Potts home on Walnut Street with Rev French Boone officiating. Interment in Webster cemetery. Goudy died yesterday afternoon at 2 30 at Mrs Potts home afterill health. He was born in 1841 in Elizabeth City Md and worked at Norfolk Navy Yards and Mt Claire shops before joining the B&O in 1869. He married Jennie L Helms in 1870. Eight children survive. Robbers Hold Manchester Savings Bank in Pittsburgh

Six bandits hijacked the Manchester Savings Bank and Trust in Pittsburgh using revolvers and shotguns, forcing the vault open and escaping with about $50,000 in currency. A stolen car, later found, was used in the getaway. One manager suffered a minor head injury while alerting police. The incident follows a prior bank holdup in Verona within ten days.
