In St Petersburg Florida a fire destroyed the Old Webster Poor House. A heroic mother and neighbors and policemen used a hand pump to save the life of Gordon Baltzegar, a 29 year old in an iron lung, after power company crews cut electricity during a neighborhood house move.
A blaze destroyed a sandstone 24 room house owned by Chester Sins of Prunts town and rented to Russell Loss and family. Firemen from Grafton Bridgeport and Pilomi fought the flames after an alarm at 4 10 am, needing two trips for supplies. Insurance estimated around 42000 dollars. The old poor farm had not been used for that purpose since the property was taken. No furniture was reported missing.
