Third Front Against Nazis Hit Honolulu Streets
The article reports that 10 or more people were injured as enemy fire sprayed streets west of Honolulu. Fires started but were controlled. Fire Chief Wallace Blaisdell said the blazes were not as bad as expected. Bob Tyce, owner of a civilian airport near Honolulu, is said to be among the dead. A plane machine gunned him while he tried to spin the propeller. Spectators on hills watched dogfights as Navy and Army planes engaged. Anti aircraft guns roared alongside engines and bomb blasts. Citizens were cleared from streets by military and civilian volunteers bearing arms. Radio orders summoned sailors marines and soldiers to posts. Farrington High School was converted into a hospital for the wounded.
